August 2010 Classes

Saturday August 7, 2010 10AM-Noon -- "Growing Orchids Naturally"

Instructor: Russ Curtis - One of the AOS's Orchid Doctors

Russ Curtis, own of our very own "Orchid Doctors" will give an interesting presentation on the art of growing orchids naturally. Mr. Curtis will talk about mounting and potting various orchids to give them a very natural, appealing look and feel.

Saturday August 14, 2010 10AM-Noon -- "Orchid Basics"

Instructor: Hyla Levine, co-owner of Green Barn Orchid Supply

Ms. Levine will give you a crash-course on everything you ever wanted to know about growing orchids in South Florida geared to the beginning grower. If you've ever wanted to try orchids but were afraid they are difficult to grow, you need this class!.

Saturday August 21, 2010 10AM-Noon -- "Orchids A to Z"

Instructor: Dot Henley

Dot is a long-time member of the AOS's Affiliated Society's Committee and an avid orchid grower. She will be presenting a very popular class surveying orchids that everyone in South Florida and grow. As many people live in Condos here in South Florida, Dot will also touch ont he best location in the house to grow orchids here.


September 2010 Classes

Saturday September 4, 2010 10AM-Noon -- "Brief And To The Point"

Instructor: Madeline Michalowski - Another of the AOS's Orchid Doctors

Madeline is another of our popular "orchid doctors" here at AOS headquarters and an avid orchid grower. She will present a very informative class that will have something for everyone. Brief and to the point - no catchy words, no frills, just 43 years of tried and true orchid cultural information presented in an unconventional form.


October 2010 Classes

Saturday October 9, 2010 10AM-Noon -- "Growing & Caring for Vandas"

Instructor: Dan Christensen, Owner of Dan & Margie Orchids

Dan, along with his wife Margie own and operate Dan & Margie Orchids out of Fort Lauderdale. Dan will be sharing his knowledge and expertise in the care of vandas here in South Florida.

Saturday October 16, 2010 10AM-Noon -- "Mounting Orchids"

Instructor: Mac Rivenback - Mac's Orchids

Mr. Rivenback, owner of Mac's Orchids in Fort Lauderdale will demonstrate the art of mounting orchids. Mac will share his many techniques and the care of mounted orchids. If you've ever wanted to try growing orchids in the way they grow in the wild - as epiphytes - this is the class for you.


December 2010 Classes

Watch this space for a very special class taught by world-renowned orchid photographer, Greg Allikas. There will be two classes offered, each limited to no more than 20 students. Stroll through the AOS gardens and learn the best way to take orchid photos with the master! Dates and times to be determined.
