The Pedilonum/Calyptrochilus Dendrobium Group

This group spans two sections of the genus but they are all characterized by clusters of flowers produced from leafless canes. The flowers of these two sections are remarklably different from other species in the genus because these two group of species have adapted to bird pollination. The flowers are distinctly tubular with dramatically reduced lips. Species in this cultural group include Den. amethystoglossum, Den. bracteosum, Den. capituliflorum, Den. topaziacum, Den. smillieae, Den. victoriae-regina, Den. lawesii, Den. goldschmidtianum (miyakei), the natural hybrid Den. x usitae, Den. secundum, and Den. subclausum.
