What You'll Find Here, part two
Every now and then we receive a note asking where to find some piece of information on this website, or better, a person reveals a new discovery they've found. So we'd like to take this opportunity to point out some useful parts of www.aos.org in this continuation.
The right side of the homepage contains links to orchid and supply vendors, with a link to the Orchid Source Directory listing of vendors at the top, and ads below. Please support our advertisers! The homepage also contains a link for help with logging in (FYI), selected Q&A's and our Photo of the Week featuring some of the best orchid photography in the world.
Although the site is logically arranged by menu, if you cannot find what you are looking for, click the green "Search the AOS" bar at the top of the content area on the homepage. Results will be returned quickly within that panel.
Left to right on the navigation menu, the About Us tab contains historical information, listings of officers, trustees and committee members, our bylaws and information about Orchids magazine. Clicking on the magazine link will take you to a page with covers and contents through 2010 and links to guidelines for submitting articles.
We would love to have you join the AOS, so if you have not, click Become a Member!
All About Orchids menu item contains a bounty of information and articles on growing orchids. Items are arranged by category. Here you will find the popular AOS Culture Sheets that can be printed and shared. There is an archive of the popular orchid Q&A here too. Additional Resources contains many original and reprint articles of interest to all levels of expertise as well as links to external websites of interest. If you are an AOS member you can log in to access exclusive content such as select articles, Orchids AtoZ (a complete compendium of orchid genera) and An Orchidist's Glossary. The glossary was long out of print and recently updated for the website with many new photos, playable pronunciation audio files and videos.
Conservation and Research contain information about our programs and grants.
Looking for a local orchid club? Click the Affiliated Societies menu item. Here you will find information about the benefits offered to affiliated societies and how to create a club. There are also forms and brochures for downloading. At the top of the right column there is a link to the Affiliated Society finder.
The Judging menu item is the number one resource for the AOS judging program. There is information about all of the awards the AOS grants, a list of judging centers and judges (login required), a complete, current copy of the Judging Handbook, and galleries and guidelines for award photography.
Looking for an essay that appeared on the AOS homepage last year? Go to the Events & News tab for the archive of all homepage postings. There is where you will also find calendars for upcoming shows, regional judging, members meetings and international events.
The AOS website contains a wealth of information about orchids and the orchid hobby. So if you are looking for orchid information, look here first!
