Linda Thorne
Linda Thorne is an American Orchid Society Judge at the judging center in Greensboro, NC., where she holds the position of chairperson. She is the past training coordinator for the judging center. She is also the International Phalaenopsis Director for the Piedmont Region, and Treasurer for the Slipper Orchid Alliance. Her love for orchids led her to leave a Washington DC job in hazardous materials thirteen years ago and start an orchid nursery in Seagrove, North Carolina.

Seagrove is a town that features over one hundred traditional North Carolina potters. Linda is a board member of the Museum of Traditional North Carolina Pottery, a group that promotes equality for all area potteries in opportunity. Linda assists the other board members in promoting and working with Tourism Development Authority for the best ways to feature Seagrove as a tourist destination. The board members plan and finalize an annual pottery festival. Linda has been an asset in fund raising and obtaining sponsorships for local pottery activities.

Her recent position of Vice Chair of the AOS National Training Committee has met the personal challenges that Linda enjoys. Whether she is casually talking about orchids to visiting customers or speaking to larger groups at the community college it is obvious that Linda loves to represent the American Orchid Society in a positive manner. She has happily accepted the position on the National Training Committee and has many ideas for future training.

Her first orchid hybrid was made in 1996 and many of her babies have flowered since then. Since the North Carolina move, Seagrove Orchids has received over 100 AOS awards. Many of them are in recognition of excellent culture. Linda and Seagrove Orchids was featured in May 2013 on public television.
