Award Number: 20171291
Award Date: November 01, 2017
Awarded As: Cyrtochilum rusticum 'Ayo'
91 flowers and 166 buds on single 524cm branched inflorescence; reflexed sepals and petals white, overlaid and blotched brown; lip white, barred brown; column brilliant yellow, white on distal tip; substance firm; texture matte The exhibitor sent photos of the plant and flowers to Stig Dalstrom asking for identification. Mr. Dalstrom responded 10/17/17: "The species you got from Ecuagenera is what I have identified as Cyrtochilum rusticum. It's a proper name for this "rustic" species. So far I have only seen plants from Ecuador but it may very well occur in Peru as well, and possibly Colombia. Cyrtochilum williamsianum looks quite different and I attach a photo here for your convenience if you haven't seen it before. Yours most truly, Stig"
