Encyclia-aspera-2018-09-13

Encyclia-aspera-2018-09-13***Contested award; Confirmed as Encyclia angustiloba, not Encyclia aspera (May 2020); although similar to E. aspera, there are characteristic differences that separate the two; comparing these photos to the 20183292 award to E. angustiloba shows a definite match; the photos show almost identical callus and dark spotted anther cap; two similar species, E. microtis and E. aspera have column wings (horns) at the very front of the column; the horns of this flower are almost halfway back on the underside of the column, which best fits E. angustiloba.***
