Coelogyne-kinabaluensis-Susan-CHM/AOS-2021-06-12***Confirmed as Coelogyne kinabaluensis (Jun 2021); C. cuprea and C. kinabaluensis are very similar; a key difference that separates them is that in C., cuprea, the pseudobulbs are spaced from 4-5 cm apart on the rhizome; on this plant they measured 1 cm apart; C. kinabaluensis is 7.5 cm in size and C. cuprea is only 3 cm in size; this flower measured 6.5 cm, much closer to C. kinabaluensis;  this flower also exhibits the pointed apex of the lip midlobe and the inflorescence is fractiflex (Zig Zag); both characteristics of C. kinabaluensis.***

Two flowers well held on two upright, fractiflex (zigzag), successively flowered inflorescences up to 25 cm presented on a strikingly colored and shaped four-growth plant grown in sphagnum in a 20 cm plastic basket; new growth emerges orange red; elongate, conical, bifoliate pseudobulbs 2 cm in diameter at base, up to 18 cm tall begin dull green tinged orange red and mature to a brighter orange-red color; leave lanceolate, dark green, margins and petiole orange-red, coloration more pronounced on older leaves; sepals and petals translucent peach-orange, sepal bear central longitudinal rib, margins reflexed outward, dorsal sepal hooded; petals radiate horizontally; lip darker peach-orange, three distinct keels, midlobe rolled under, sidelobes upright, acuminate; column and anther cap peach red; substance light; texture crystalline; noted for unusual, attractively colored growths and upright inflorescence; native to Mt. Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo;
