This species is accepted. First described as Schomburgkia tibicinis var. grandiflora by Lindley in1845. Elevated to species Schomburgkia grandiflora in 1901 by Sander.
The native range of this species is Mexico. It is a pseudobulbous epiphyte and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome.
