Paraphalaenopsis-denevei-2020-10-10***Determined to be the hybrid, Paraphalaenopsis Boediardjo, not denevei (Nov 2020); flowers of the awarded plant are smaller than P. laycockii, but larger than P. denevei; the colors of these flowers are faded due to the P. laycockii influence and the flowers exhibit a somewhat floppy appearance from the P. laycockii; the entire lip is intermediate between the two species; the side lobes of the lip are half way between those of the two parents, as is the midlobe.***

Judging Center: FNCJC

Award Number: 20201391

Award Date: September 19, 2020

Awarded As: Paraphalaenopsis denevei

This flower received an AM as denevei, but it appears to me to have laycockii in it. I expected denevei to have much bolder red markings on the lip, so I am questioning this one.

Seven flowers on one 6.5-cm inflorescence; base color ivory, sepals and petals lanceolate, slightly twisted, overlaid pale green, overlay absent along margins resulting in picotee; sepals recurved at base, sepals light rose dusting proximally; petals inferior darker rose line; lip side lobes spotted red-brown basally, solid red-brown distally, tip white, keels pointed, yellow, midlobe narrow terminating in broad cuneate shape, spotted centrally; substance firm; texture matte.
