How did SITF see the different between the specimen and Vanda petersiana?
According to Dr. Martin Motes, V. petersiana does not appear to be in cultivation and is known only from a couple of plants. Motes distinguishes the two as follows The keels of V. motesiana are broad ridges (three of them) that run down the claw of the lip to the midlobe. Those of V. petersiana are thin lamellae. The side lobes of V. motesiana are broad and full almost approaching Section obtusiloba while those of V. petersiana are small and triangular. Plants of V.motesiana are of a more compact stature. This plant is 40cm tall. Those of V. petersiana are reported to be 50-70cm. Based on just the keels and side lobes, this is clearly V. motesiana.
