Nineteen flowers clustered on three, short, basal inflorescences; plant grown in a wire basket with charcoal and coconut fiber as a medium; one or two lanceolate leaves up to 35 cm are carried on 4 cm globose pseudobulbs; flower creamy yellow; sepals and petals blotched magenta; lip blotched magenta, overlaid glossy black centrally and on distal third; column and anther cap overlaid magenta, darker distally and on anther cap; substance firm; texture matte, lip glossy; awarded as Xylobium colleyi (Bateman ex Lindl.) Rolfe, Gard. Chron., ser. 3, 7: 288 (1890); pending taxonomic verification; per WCSPF natural distribution ranges from Trinidad to Central and South Tropical America, although Dressler has it annotated for Costa Rica in Volume III of Manural de Plantas de Costa Rica, that annotation was the only reference prior to the show of the plant being found in Costa Rica as part of his determination that this species is Xylobium colleyi, Franco Pupulin consulted with the exhibitor and confirmed the provenance of the plant to his satisfaction; plant sent to SITF per the Handbook and should it be finally determined that this species is Xylobium colleyii , this will be the second recording of the species for Costa Rica. Xylobium colleyi (Bateman ex Lindl.) Rolfe, Gard. Chron., ser. 3, 7: 288 (1890). This name is accepted. Homotypic Synonyms: * Maxillaria colleyi Bateman ex Lindl., Edwards's Bot.
