Japan Grand Prix International Orchid Festival 2013

Phragmipedium kovachii was the Grand Champion.

Cattleya trianae was the Reserve Grand Champion.

Calanthe Kozu (discolor x izu-insularis) was awarded the AOS trophy for the best Oriental/Japanese orchid.

Shanghai Orchid Show’ 2013

Shanghai Orchid Show’ 2013 will be held from March 29 to April 22, 2013 in the enormous, over 12,000 sqm conservatory of the Chenshan Botanical Garden, Shanghai. This is the first time that Shanghai has hosted a world orchid show. There will be 15 exhibitors from more than 10 countries and regions displaying their magnificent plants and orchid arts. As well as the display of orchids, there will be lectures and orchid judging. There will be an orchid symposium, Shanghai 2013 with the theme the “Role of Botanic Gardens and Orchid Research, Conservation, and Horticulture.” Lectures will be given by representatives of world-famous gardens such as KEW and the Singapore Botanic Garden.

Chenshan Botanical Garden, Shanghai, is a comprehensive botanical garden with scientific content and beautiful garden landscapes. The garden integrates scientific research and the popularization of science. The garden was co-constructed by Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the State Forestry Administration. It is located in Songjiang District, Shanghai, with an area of 207 hectares (511 acres). Chenshan Botanical Garden, Shanghai, was first opened to the public on April 26, 2010. The conservatory was open to the public on January 23, 2011.

By the end of 2012, the garden has attracted more than 2.2 million visitors, and about distinctive plant species and cultivars have been collected, including greenhouse plants Magnolia, Rose, Cherry, Iris, aquatic and medicinal plants, rare and endangered species. All of these plans are being conserved and have been recorded in a scientific manner.
