Description of Award: Four flowers on one erect, terminal, red-brown, 33-cm inflorescence, arising from a sheathed pseudobulb with two slender 33-cm long by 1.5-cm wide leaves; four mature, leafless, slightly wrinkled pseudobulbs up to 3cm wide by 5cm tall, plus one emerging growth; grown in a 7-cm, plastic net pot, inside an 8-cm wide, tall plastic pot in bark mix; flowers broadly stellate; sepals and petals spatulate, light green, softly blushed red-mahogany, suffused deeper apically; lip trilobed, side lobes porrect, light green, flared apically, midlobe round, white, margins ruffled; column light green, anther cap white, apically red-purple; substance firm; texture matte; species from South America; awarded for rarity in cultivation, pleasing shape and color; species similar to Encyclia tampensis; plant judged as Encyclia yauaperyensis.

Encyclia yauaperyensis is supposedly unique in that it is the only South American Encyclia species with a triangular midlobe that is also apiculate and that apicule is rounded or obtuse rather than sharply pointed. I don't see any of these features in this specimen. the midlobe looks to be almost globular.
