I got the true Encyclia ambigua awarded yesterday. Julius will send you all the information includig the award photos. It appears that the 3 previous awards to "ambigua" are, infact, the species Encyclia trachychila with its yellow, chartreuse, mustard yelloy lip and a brown overlay on the segments. I sent photos of both species to G Carnevalli and he agreed.
His e-mailcomments are as follows
Dear Dr. Hunt: Your assessment of species limits is correct. The white flowered species is the true Encyclia ambigua, the other is the rare (in Mexico, but apparently common in places of Guatemala) E. trachychila. There is no confusion regarding these species in the Lindley herbarium.Â
