RECOGNITION (from the schlecerterianum text) : Epidendrum schleclÃterianum belongs to the Nanodes Group, characterized by the caespitose to creeping,
symRodial plantsf the short stems completely coverea by the base of the non-articulate, fleshy, imbricating leaves; sessile,
few-flowered inf orescences. The species is recognized by the two-flowered inflorescence with relatively long, greenish
purple to olive green flowers tinged witn red, the
oblong-Ianceolate, 17-20 mm long sepals, co rdatereniform,
minutely apiculate lip, anáthe column 10-14
mm long with the anther elongate, subacute and
apically' fÃmbriate. Epidendrum congestum Rolfe has 2-
3, much smaller flowers (sepals 7- ro mm long) and the
lip cordiform, with the apex acute, and tlÃe anther
widely ovoid and aRically truncate, the margin
something dentate. Epiaendrum congestoides Ames &
C.Schweinf. also has a two-flowered IIlflorescence, but
the flowers are smaller, greenish to reddish green,
sepals ovate to ovate-lance6Iate, 8-1 0[13] mm long, the
lip reniform-semiorbi cular, somewhat embracing the
sliort column (4 .5-5.8 [6.6] mm long) in natural
position, and the anther is short, the marglll fimbriate
