Epidendrum vinosum 'Irene' CBR 2025-03-15

Posted on March 15, 2025

Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Epidendrum vinosum (Oct 2026). This species is similar to Epi. catillus, which is solid bright red to vibrant violet-red; often with a contrasting white and yellow central lip area; this plant does not have the solid intense bright red overlay of Epi. catillus. This plant matches E. vinosum described in the Icones Orchidacearum Fascicle 18(2) Plate 1898, Hagsater & Jimenez 2021. The sepal and petal colors do not as solidly overlay the base color as other flowers of this species but are more sparsely blotchy. This flower does display the very large, prominent white callus that physically covers the majority of the mid-lobe as described for E. vinosum.
