Jennyella lowiana (Reichenbach) Lueckel and Fessel. Synonym: Houlletia lowiana Reichenbach. Caespitose terrestrials. Pseudobulbs ellipsoid, to 0.8 x 0.9 in. (2 x 2.3 cm). subtended by papery bracts. Leaves one, lanceolate, long-petiolate, acuminate, the petiole to 3.1 in. (8 cm) long, the blade to 11.7 x 1.8 in. (30 x 4.5 cm). Inflorescences erect pedunculate racemes to 7 in. (18 cm) long. Flowers 5--8, waxy, fragrant, yellow, the center of the lip glossy orange-brown. Sepals concave, the dorsal sepal broadly elliptic, obtuse, to 0.9 x 0.6 in. (2.3 x 1.5 cm), the lateral sepals suborbicular, obtuse, shortly fused at the base, each lobe to 0.9 x 0.7 in. (2.3 x 1.8 cm). Petals obovate-suborbicular, clawed, obtuse, to 0.9 x 0.7 in. (2.2 x 1.7 cm). Lip three-lobed, to 1.1 in. (2.8 cm) long, the lateral lobes stiffly erect, lanceolate, acuminate ending in sharp points, the midlobe oblong, subtruncate to obscurely three-lobulate, the callus an erect-recurved transverse ridge. Column to 0.4 in. (1 cm) long. Colombia to Bolivia at 5600 ft. (1700 m). Flowers in December in nature.
Jennyella sanderi (Rolfe) Lueckel and Fessel. Synonym: Houlletia sanderi Rolfe. Caespitose terrestrials. Pseudobulbs ovoid, to 2.3 in. (6 cm) long, subtended by papery bracts. Leaves one, elliptic-lanceolate, long-petiolate, acuminate, the petiole to 9.8 in. (25 cm) long, the blade to 17.6 x 3.1 in. (45 x 8 cm). Inflorescences erect long-pedunculate racemes to 17.6 in. (45 cm) long, the upper rachis and ovaries covered with blackish spots. Flowers 2--6, globose, pale yellow, the center of the lip dark yellow. Sepals deeply concave, the dorsal sepal broadly elliptic, obtuse, to 1 x 0.5 in. (2.5 x 1.3 cm), the lateral sepals suborbicular, obtuse, to 1 x 0.8 in. (2.6 x 2.1 cm). Petals broadly elliptic-suborbicular, short-clawed, obtuse, to 0.9 x 0.6 in. (2.3 x 1.6 cm). Lip three-lobed, to 0.9 x 1.6 in. (2.4 x 4.1 cm), the lateral lobes erect, broadly-obovate-subspatulate, obtuse-rounded, the midlobe oblong-obovate, entire to five-toothed at the apex, the callus a pair of fleshy keels along the leading margins of the lateral lobes. Column arching, with two fang-like teeth at the apex, to 0.7 in. (1.8 cm) long, the viscidium suborbicular. Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia at 4900--5600 ft. (1500--1700 m). Flowers from September to February. Jennyella clarae (Schlechter) Lueckel and Fessel [Houlletia clarae Schlechter], from Colombia and Peru, is similar to J. sanderi but differs by having a widened lip apex, an additional callus between the lateral lobes of the lip, and a rounded viscidium.
