Masdevallia

Finding

SITF confirms this plant as Masdevallia abbreviata (Jul 2025). This plant is an excellent match to photos in the orchidroots.com and to the photo and description on Pg. 105 in Jim McQueen's 1992 book, "Miniature Orchids". It is very similar to Milan Vagner's and Eric Hunt's photos of M. abbreviata (white color group) shown in the IOSPE.

Seven flowers and five buds on four inflorescences to 15 cm; plant 9 cm wide by 18 cm tall grown mounted with sphagnum moss on a 13 x 6 cm hardwood plaque; thirteen 8.7 x 1.1 cm leaves spatulate, margins entire; sepals white, dorsal sepal hooded, caudae to 0.7 cm long, apple green; petals and lip white, form not visible; column apple green; anther cap cream; substance firm; texture crystalline; recognized for rarity in cultivation and educational value.
