Pleurothallis-bivalvis-var-ignivomi-Bryon-CHM-86-Pts-2021-03-24Confirmed as Pleurothallis bivalvis (Apr 2022-04); var. ignivomi is invalid since there is no validly published variety of P. bivalvis; P. bivalvis as currently circumscribed is extremely variable; the general shape and number of veins in the sepals are consistent with P. bivalvis; these petals however are smooth and the line drawing shows a dentate margin; the 1914 drawing of Schlecter's P. stenocardium (synonym) does not show serrations on the petals, but Luer's drawing of P. lilianae (synonym) does show serrations; of 13 photos in orchidroots.com, none show serrations of the petals.

Nine flowers and 15 buds on 24 inflorescences arising from leaf axial; sepals and petals pale yellow; dorsal sepal with three darker veins; synsepal with 2 darker veins, blushed maroon centrally; lip dark maroon, thick and fleshy, looks wet; column white; ovary chartreuse, 0.1cm wide x 0.3cm long, ribbed longitudinally; substance firm, texture crystalline; commended for color variation previously not noted; species from Ecuador; ID by SITF_________________________

Plant came from Ecuagenera as Pleurthallis ignivomi
