Restrepia striata Shogun Hawaii CCE 2024-06-21

Posted on June 21, 2024

Finding
SITF has determined this plant to be Restrepia trichoglossa, not Restrepia striata (Feb 2025). Species identification provided by Adam Karremans. This plant matches R. trichoglossa based on the position and size of the lip horns. The lip is not a good match for R. brachypus (POWO lists R. striata as synonymous with R. brachypus). The lip of R. brachypus is much broader than this lip and, more importantly, the basal horns of R. brachypus are very short, incurved, and do not extend out to the constricted portion of the lip. Those of R. trichoglottis are much longer, parallel or divergent, set farther forward, and extend past the base of the lip constriction.
