Serapias polyaden 'Gabriel' CBR 2026-10-12 Determined to be Cyclopogon chloroleucus

Posted on October 12, 2026

Finding
SITF has determined this plant to be Cyclopogon chloroleucus, not Serapias polyden (Oct 2026). This has been an interesting journey. First, Kew/POWO has the species Serapias polyaden as an Unplaced name. The original journal is rare and the Genus Serapias which is found from Southern Europe to Asia Minor is not found in Brazil, whereas the Genus Cyclopogon is found in Tropical & Subtropical America. Another name proposed was Cyclopogon polyaden, but it could not be traced back to the original publication. Rafael Govearts, Kew/POWO has communicated that this species is accepted as C. chloroleucus and POWO has listed Serapias polyden as a synonym. There are matching photos of this plant on the IOSPE as Cyclopogon polyaden and many on the web as another synonymous species, Stigmatosema polyaden.
