
Marketing Coordinator Job Description
Position type:
Full-time exempt, benefits, salary range up to $75,000, or part time, limited benefits, salary range $45,000-$60,000, commensurate with time devoted. At will employment. Remote. Open to all legal residents with unrestricted work permit in United States.
Position is open until filled. Start date negotiable. EOE.
Reports to: Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the American Orchid Society (AOS), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organized to support the passion for orchids through education, conservation, and research. The AOS is over 100 years old and currently has 10,000 members. The AOS is looking for an experienced, energetic, dynamic, and self-motivated Marketing Coordinator to establish and maintain the overall AOS marketing strategy.
General:
The Marketing Coordinator establishes and maintains the overall AOS Marketing Strategy with direction from the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees and uses other AOS Committee Chairs as resources.

Core duties:
Develop a holistic marketing plan and brand for AOS.
Implement marketing strategy as approved by Board of Trustees.
Review/create all public-facing documents, including but not limited to member emails, newsletter (Orchidgram), banner ads on website, member meeting advertisements, social media posts, and physical marketing materials.
Evaluate communication platforms, existing as well as emerging, for effective marketing.
Coordinate campaign strategies (donation, membership, retention).
Collaborate with external marketing firm(s).
Collaborate with numerous volunteer work groups and committees.
Develop and manage marketing budget.
Travel as required (members meetings, other).
Assist with other tasks to advance the mission of the organization as time permits and/or situation requires.

Membership Growth:
The Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the Membership Committee Chair to support both new member initiatives and the retention of existing members.
Evaluate current initiatives and report back to the Board with suggestions such as: New Member Webinar, Youth Programs.
Membership drive campaigns (currently 2 per year).
Create Emails and promotional materials for new and more seasoned members.

Social Media Presence
The Marketing Coordinator will assure that the overall AOS marketing strategy carries over into all social media platforms.
Work closely and cooperatively with the Social Media Task Force to create organic posts aimed at growing followers, increasing engagement, and getting audience to know, like, and trust the AOS.
Assist in creating an integrated digital marketing presence.
Evaluate current and future communication channels and emerging technologies to increase and retain membership.
Implement strategies accordingly as approved by Board of Trustees.
Find new ways to collect emails for member campaigns.
Help create short videos or podcasts for social media posts, in support of campaigns, or for special purposes.
Leverage the monthly webinar presentations by promoting the content to social media platforms in advance of the webinars, create front and back-end marketing slides for these webinars.

Required qualification and skills:
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a holistic marketing plan and brand for an organization.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate and supervise services by external marketing firm.
Demonstrated experience in creating online content and managing regular posts to social media.
Demonstrated successful management of multi-pronged projects with several stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in managing budgets.
Proven ability to write persuasive copy.
Professional voice presentation and good phone demeanor.
Ability to be self-directed and have Executive Committee-level accountability and conversations.
Ability to work cooperatively with internal teams of volunteers.
Ability to interface with the public and external partners, such as botanical gardens and orchid growers.
Travel for up to two members meetings per year.
Desirable qualifications and skills:
Non-profit experience.
Experience in a member driven organization.
Experience growing plants, ideally orchids.
Spanish language professional proficiency.
Graphic design and/or video editing.

The position is remote with flexible hours, emphasizing self-directed, results-driven work. AOS has a small permanent staff and is supported by a significant number of knowledgeable and dedicated volunteers. The position includes and requires paid travel for up to two members meetings per year.
