Description: Habit creeping epiphyte; roots fibrous;
rhizome very slender; pseudobulbs crowded, basally appressed to
rhizome, then erect, ovoid or oblong-ovoid, 0.9-1.6 x 0.6-1.0, smooth or
grooved, unifoliate; leaves erect, apex slightly recurved, elliptic or
elliptic-oblong, acute, to 7.5 x 1.5, slightly leathery, distinctly grooved
above and keeled on underside medially; petiole to 0.3Â l.; inflorescence 3-8 arising from the
base of the pseudobulb, slender, erect, 3.0-5.0Â
l., single-flowered, persistent; floral bracts funnel-shaped, c. 0.15 l.; pedicel and ovary uncinate at
apex, to 1.5Â l.; flowers pink
with maroon-purple bars and mottles, c. 1.5 x 1.0; dorsal sepal strongly
hooded, elliptic, subacute, to 1.0 x 0.6, greenish with prominent veins on
reverse; lateral sepals obliquely oblong, acute, 0.9 x 0.35, held
parallel to pedicel, veins prominent on reverse, inner margins ciliate,
narrowly rolled inward; petals oblong-elliptic, 0.7 x 0.3, olive-green,
barred and mottled with pale purple, held partially within cupped dorsal sepal
and with lip in the "up" position forming a heather-like bell; lip
tongue-shaped, c. 0.6 x 0.1, blackish-red-purple, cream centrally on midlobe,
joined to column-foot by a thin claw, fleshy, very mobile, constricted at the
middle, basal lateral lobes small, erect with ear-like appendages, midlobe
tongue-like; column minute c. 0.1 tall, yellow green; stelidia acicular,

Habitat: Alt. 800-1000 m. where it is found as an epiphyte at
base of small trees or shrubs (Val)
Culture: Grows mounted on tree fern slabs and kept constantly
moist at intermediate temperatures and moderate light.
Flowering: Collected in May (Val); in Mar. and Apr. in N.A.
greenhouse culture.
