Cincinnati Judging Center - award 20123485
I am requesting identification of the attached plant which was awarded as Phal. kunstleri – I am attaching photos taken by the center’s photographer and by the plant’s owner, and the award slip.
Information from the team on why it distinguished this plant from Phal. fuscata:Â The definitive characteristics separating P kunstleri from P fuscata are minimal. The defining traits are a short , bulbous versus cylindrical column, and fleshy ridges on the disc between the lip lateral lobes. Fuscata does not have these fleshy ridges. Drawings in The Genus Phalaenopsis, Sweet (1980) pages 68-69 clearly show the difference. The attached pictures (taken by the owner) show the ridges and column of the awarded kunstleri after he removed the lip lateral lobes.
