Catasetum atratum 'Jiffy OK' AM CHALLENGE 2026-06-15

Posted on June 15, 2026

Finding
SITF agrees with the challenge and has determined that this plant is not Catasetum atratum (Jul 2026). The inflorescences of C. atratum are horizontal to decumbent to the rachis and then sharply pendent. The lip of C. atratum is cymbiform, not flattened as this one is. C. atratum flowers are less than 5-cm wide and about 15 per inflorescence. These flowers are almost 7cm. The flowers are enormous for C. atratum male flowers (larger by a factor of 2) and the lip is too flat. This is most probably Ctsm. Jumbo Babylon (atratum x pileatum).
