When sending the descriptions and photos, Janice Yates, the center chair, wrote:

In October, two dendrobiums, each identified as platygastrium, were brought to the judging table - at first glance, the plants appeared to be the same, Upon closer examination, the team found distinct differences in vegetative growth and the flowers and concluded that they did not have the taxonomic skills to determine which plant was the best example of platygastrium and whether the differences were within normal parameters or not. The team awarded both plants CBR, knowing that one of the awards will likely fall.
