SITF has determined this plant to be Encyclia thienii, not Encyclia bohnkiana (Aug 2026). This was difficult to unravel, since both of these species are very similar; however, Kew/POWO recently made it much less complicated. Kew has just made E. bohnkiana a synonym of E. thienii. The 2025 Phytotaxa article, "Taxonomic notes on Encyclia" provides clarification about the small Encyclia bohnkiana and synonymizes E. bohnkiana with E. thienii. As described in the article, both E. bohnkiana and E. thienii may have one to two leaves per pseudobulb. This contradicts some of the literature and drawings. Photos of this plant show both one and two leaves per pseudobulb. The plant size, flower size, number of flowers per pseudobulb, and number of leaves per pseudobulb of this plant is in range of E. thienii.
