Himantoglossum-calcaratum-ssp-jankae-Red-Lizard-CBR-2021-05-25Confirmed as Himantoglossum calcaratum ssp. jankae (May 2021); a Phytotaxa article, "Himantoglossum jankae, a new name for a long misnamed lizard orchid" describes the differences in the ssp. jankae (as H. jankae) and the ssp. calcaratum; the spur of ssp. jankae is .5 to .95 cm and ssp. calcaratum is .75 to 1.4 cm; also the lip of ssp. calcaratum is always spotted; the spur on his plant, although not measured looks to be about .5 cm; the identification is supported by photos in SOF, OW, and IOSPE which closely match this flower.

Nine flowers and 20 buds on one upright terminal inflorescence of 25 cm; single growth plant 13 cm diameter by 13cm tall going into dormancy; pale green lanceaolate decurrent leaves arranged in an ascending whorl, largest leaf 3.5 wide by 8.5 long; sepals and petals tightly clasped forming hood, white stripped burgundy; lip trilobed, white, midlobe very elongated overlaid pale green, bifurcated and twisted, side lobes ruffled, overlaid purple distal tips falcate and overlapping; midline spotted purple; column white stigma edged maroon, exposed pollinia gray; ovary green ridged,0.4 in diameter by 1.5 in length substance firm, texture matte, species from Eastern Europe, ID by SITF__________________
