Liparis resupinata 'Irene' CBR 2025-08-18 determined to be Liparis lacerata

Posted on August 18, 2025

Finding
SITF has determined this plant to be Liparis lacerata, not Liparis resupinata (Mar 2026). Herbarium sheets show an upright inflorescence and the lip completely different between the photos and the drawing on the herbarium sheet compared to the lip of this plant. The dorsal of this flower is reflexed while the drawing shows the dorsal overhanging the column. The column is also significantly different. The photo on the IOSPE shows a lip with the same protusions as this one. The foliage of this plant also favors L. lacerata. This plant is an excellent match to two existing awards (CHM in 2003 and HCC in 2015). The name of L. lacerata is supposedly derived from serrated foliage; however, serrations on the leaves were not visible on this plant.
