Thirteen slightly cupped, dramatic flowers and two buds on 15 very short basal inflorescences up to 7 cm; flowers dark orange; sepals basally overlaid crimson, abaxially completely overlaid crimson; dorsal sepal concave, lateral sepals held horizontal, obliquely triangular; petals lanceolate, porrect, basally linearly stippled crimson, reverse with same pattern marginally; lip trilobed, hinged, callus very prominent, midlobe heavily overlaid dark crimson, papillate, gray-dusted, distally decurved, margins crenulate, beautifully edged dark orange; column white, ventrally suffused deep yellow, streaked dark crimson, anther-cap light chestnut; substance firm; texture sepals and petals matte, lip velvety; species native to Ecuador, a recently described member of the Maxillaria grandiflora complex (2022); commended for rich color, good form and showy flowers.
