At the Puerto Rico Orchid Society Show held on March 29, 2017 a cultivar of the species was granted a CHM/AOS (83 points) and was granted the clonal name ‘Raquel’. Nomenclature: Maxillaria costaricensis Schltr., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. Beih. 10: 232 (1923). Homotypic Synonyms: Maxillariella costaricensis (Schltr.) M.A.Blanco & Carnevali, Lankesteriana 7: 528 (2007). Notes: • Per WCSPF Natural Distribution: Costa Rica to Panamá • Some judges believe there is a high chance it could be Maxillaria variabilis which is very like it. Description: Thirty cupped, bright yellow flowers on 30, single-flowered inflorescences; petals distally recurved outward; lip midlobe overlaid red-burgundy centrally, keel very dark burgundy, side lobes overlaid red-burgundy; column blushed chartreuse; substance firm; texture sparkling; very clean plant 21 cm tall by 33 cm wide growing on a 15 cm sq plastic basket with wood bark and sphagnum moss; per WCSPF natural distribution is Costa Rica to Panamá; provisionally awarded as Maxillaria costaricensis Schltr., Repert.
