At the PRJC Monthly Meeting held on May 7, 2017 a cultivar of the species was granted a CHM/AOS (82 points) and was granted the clonal name ‘Finchero Rey Tierra’. Nomenclature: Trichoglottis subviolacea (Llanos) Merr., Sp. Blancoan.: 116 (1918). Homotypic Synonyms: * Synptera subviolacea Llanos, Fragm. Pl. Filip.: 98 (1851). Cleisostoma subviolaceum (Llanos) Rchb.f., Bonplandia (Hannover) 10: 335 (1862). * Basionym/Replaced Synonym Heterotypic Synonyms: Trichoglottis bataanensis Ames, Orchidaceae 1: 105 (1905). Notes: • Award is being referred to SITF per the Handbook. • Per WCSPF Natural Distribution: reported as endemic to Philippines Description: Ninety flowers and 22 buds on seven pendent, blushed maroon canes with alternate leaves; plant 41 cm long by 57 cm wide growing on a tree fern slab; flowers white; sepals and petals recurved inward, overlaid creamy yellow, blotched very light brown; lip midlobe spotted lavender centrally; substance firm; texture very crystalline; per WCSPF species is reported as endemic to the Philippines; presented as Trichoglottis bataanensis Ames, Orchidaceae 1: 105 (1905), it was awarded under the accepted name Trichoglottis subviolacea (Llanos) Merr., Sp. Blancoan.: 116 (1918) pending taxonomic verification by SITF.
