SITF has determined this plant to be Phragmipedium besseae with no subspecies designation, not Phragmipedium dalessandroi (Oct 2025). P.dalessandroi is considered by POWO to be synonymous with P. besseae var. dalessandroi. This plant was submitted as Phrag. dalessandroi 'Zephyr's Choice' (P. dalessandroi 'Ackers Flamenco Dancer' x P. dalessandroi 'Firefly'), but displays predominantly besseae features and verifying the varietal status was not possible. It showed no characteristics of P. dalessandroi, other than possibly color. Chuck Acker, the breeder of this strain said that although other plants from this cross had "telltale dalessandroi characteristics", this plant did not look like a d'alessandroi in his opinion.
