Finding

SITF has determined this plant to be Scaphyglottis prolifera, not S. fusiformis (Aug 2025). The photo of this flower does closely resemble the photo of S. fusiformis by Baptista in the OW; however, the pseudobulbs of this plant at 17 cm are nearly twice the size as detailed in the 2013 Sziachetko & Kolanowska description in the "Notes on the Scaphyglottis fusiformis Complex in Colombia with the Description of Two New Species". This flower has outspread petals and the drawing of S. fusiformis show them to be incurved towards the lip midlobe. The growth habit also appears different from S. fusiformis. This plant is a good fit to the flower form and plant habit of S. prolifera. Although the flowers seem a little smaller than the measurements given in the IOSPE, they are within the acceptable range for S. prolifera. Also, the recurved flower segments make more sense with this species.

Three hundred and twenty flowers and one hundred and fifty-six buds evenly presented from the interior to the outer edges of the plant, arising from an immaculately grown plant on a cork plaque 9cm by 4cm, flowers present on plant surface and deep in foliage; pseudobulbs fusiform, 17cm long by 0.3cm wide; leaf lanceolate to 4.5cm long by 0.7 cm wide; flowers ivory; lip pale green; anther cap glossy raspberry; substance soft; texture crystalline.
