Finding

SITF confirms this plant as Prosthechea micropus (Jul 2026). This plant matches P. micropus as described in Lankester, Vol 4, # 3, December 2004, "Epidendrum tripunctatum, the tale of two species", Pg. 223, Wesley Higgins. There is a previous CBR award to P. micropus, originally Encyclia tripunctata (synonym). This plant is an exact match to the photo as Pollardia micropus on the IOSPE. This Genus, Pollardia, is not recognized by Kew/POWO as valid. That name is taken for the three bright golden spots on the column anther cap, which this plant clearly shows. There is also an exact match to a photo on the orchidroots.com.

Five flowers and three buds on three inflorescences to 9 cm. arranged in a charming linear sequence; flowers stellate, light yellow-green; lip ovate, white, blushed light green and striped mahogany centrally; column dark maroon, three orange spots on tip; anther cap dark maroon; substance firm; texture slightly sparkling. Pleasant fragrance noted.

Background Information: Species previously awarded as Encyclia tripunctata 'Bobbie' CBR/AOS 8 May 1982, description agrees with present award.
In June 2014 AOS Orchids pg 376-377 article has a picture of Encyclia tripunctata / Prosthechea micropus and discussion on naming. A sidebar comment by Ron McHatton about this species and reference to an article by T. J. Hartung May 2014 AOS Orchids pg 298-303.
