Masdevallia microptera 'Exotica' CBR 2026-09-22
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Masdevallia microptera (Sep 2026). This plant matches the IOSPE and Orchidroots photos and Luer's drawing on the IOSPE. Using the key from from Icones Pleurothallidinarum, Volume 23, Systematics of Masdevallia (Part Four), there appears to be a typo in couplet #10 of the key for Subsection Oscillantes where the second choice should likely be #11, not #18. Otherwise, the key never takes you to couplet #11 and subsequently to M. microptera. On enlargement, one of the photos shows the lip with a hook at the apex of the midlobe that matches the "uncinate" (shaped like a hook or curved at the tip) wings in the description.
Bulbophyllum viridescens 'Rainbow' CHM 2026-09-20 Challenge Determined to be ericssonii
Finding
SITF has determined this plant to be Bulbophyllum ericssonii (Sep 2026). This identity was most likely caused by a mistake in names between B. viridescens, a species which is not umbellate, and B. virescens which is synonymous with B. ericssonii and which is umbellate, as is this plant. The photo of B. ericssonii on the IOSPE is a close match to this plant in color and form. Also, there are almost 50 images by different photographers closely matching this plant.

Vanda tessellata 'Emilia Luna Motes' CHM 2026-09-07
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Vanda tessellata (Sep 2026) with no subspecies name. There is a previously awarded plant, V. tessellata 'Emrys Chew' AM/AOS, which is a cultivar of Vanda tessellata (‘Mary Motes’ x ‘Alice Motes’) and which is similar in color to this plant. This color has also been known in the trade as "var. rufescens" a name for an uncommon red color form of Vanda tessellata and, although not recognized as a subspecies by Kew/POWO, It can be found on the Internet.
Dendrobium terminale 'Beverly's Accent' CBR 2026-09-06
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Dendrobium terminale (Sep 2026). Dendrobium capitellatoides is a similar species. The dorsal sepal of D. terminale and this flower is oblong-elliptic, while that of D. capitellatoides is distinctly triangular. The latter species flower is typically 15cm or less in size and this is 20cm. The leaves of capitellatoides are described as linear-lanceolate and those of terminale more triangular. The single, broad keel, small erect petals and the shape of the leaves look correct for this species.
Macroclinium confertum 'J & L Orchids' CBR 2026-09-05

Vanda alpina 'Elizabeth' CHM 2026-09-03
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Vanda alpina (Sep 2026). This plant matches available photos including orchidroots.com, and the IOSPE. V. cristata is a similar species to V. alpina; however, it has prominent horns at the apex of the lip. V. alpina and this plant do not. The leaves of this plant are distinctly bilobed and one of them shown in the photo is also unequally bilobed, as they should be for this species.
Phalaenopsis tetraspis fma. imperatrix 'Pendragon's Mayhem' AM 2026-09-03 Determined to be forma christiana
Finding
SITF has determined this plant to be Phalaenopsis tetraspis f. christiana, not f. imperatrix (Sep 2026). The difference between the two is that f. imperatrix has a solid, uniform cover of deep red or purplish-red on the sepals and sepals and f. christiana has an unpredictable mix of solid red and white parts, as does this flower. Orchidroots.com has a number of supporting photos of P. tetraspis f. christiana that show the unpredictable nature of this forma.
Bulbophyllum artvogelii 'Irene' CHM 2026-08-31
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Bulbophyllum artvogelii (Sep 2026). This plant matches the photos on the IOSPE and orchidroots.com. It has a distinguishing, cordate, downcurved, distinctly spotted lip, the sepals and petals match photos as well. The description states it can have two to three simultaneous flowers. This flower does not match any other species in Section Beccariana and it is an excellent match for the floral forms of this species.
Oncidium x leeannum 'Irene' CBR 2026-08-31

Bulbophyllum lobbii subsp. boreoborneense 'Hamakua's Firebird' CHM 2026-08-30
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Bulbophyllum lobbii subsp. boreoborneense (Oct 2026). Identity based on based on the severely reflexed, swept back petals and sepals. The fundamental differences separating these two variants involve petal and sepal Orientation. While the type species subsp. lobbii typically features broadly spreading, flat, or slightly reflexed yellow-to-ochre petals, northern Bornean variants often present tighter, more forward-pointing, or distinctly swept-back (reflexed) lateral segments. Subspecies boreoborneense is also delineated by microscopic differences in the callus texture and the exact curvature of the lip tip compared to the smooth, broader lip found on the standard type species.
Maxillaria anacatalinaportillae 'Uzhupud' CHM 2026-08-28
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Maxillaria anacatalinaportillae (Sep 2026). The plant matches the description and photos of Maxillaria anacatalinaportillae in the Enrico de Lazaro Science News article "New Species of Orchid Discovered in Ecuador" which details the discovery and morphological description of Maxillaria anacatalinaportillae. Also, the Phytokeys article, "Maxillaria anacatalinaportillae, a New Remarkable Species from Ecuador" by Monika M. Lipińska, Natalia Olędrzyńska, Alex Portilla, Dorota Łuszczek, Aidar A. Sumbembayev, and Dariusz L. Szlachetko provides the original detailed description, photos, and drawings of Maxillaria anacatalinaportillae which match this plant.
Stanhopea cirrhata 'Hija del Faisan' CHM 2026-08-25
Finding
SITF confirms this plant as Stanhopea cirrhata (Sep 2026). The two black objects that look like eyes are the horns and you can make out the sharp bristle at the end of the column from which the name is derived. The photo on the IOSPE matches this plant, as well as several photos that are an almost exact match on the orchidroots/Blue Nanta website.
