Epidendreae subtribe Laeliinae; allied to Ponera Lindley.
Overview
Caespitose epiphytes with erect, leafy stems on horizontal, sometimes trailing rhizomes bearing fleshy roots usually of greater diameter than the rhizomes. Inflorescences terminal, congested, few-flowered more or less secund racemes of tubular flowers. Sepals and petals subsimilar. Lip unlobed, sigmoid (viewed from the side). Column straight, completely concealed by the floral tube; pollinia 4.
Distribution
A genus of about 10 species distributed from Mexico and Cuba to Argentina. Species limits in Isochilus are problematic and the genus requires revision.

All species of Isochilus are easy to cultivate in a fine medium in small containers or baskets. The plants respond to even watering (never fully drying out between waterings), intermediate temperatures, and bright (but not direct) light.
