Overview
Miniature caespitose epiphytes. Pseudobulbs ellipsoid, compressed, subtended by foliaceous bracts. Inflorescences short axillary racemes. Flowers resupinate. Sepals and petals subsimilar, subequal, free, spreading. Lip unlobed, tubular, without callus. Column straight, with basal prong-like wings, without foot, the clinandrium conspicuously hooded; pollinia 2, on a common spatulate stipe and minute viscidium.
Etymology
Named to honor the orchidologist Charles Schweinfurth who specialized in the orchids of Peru.
Distribution
A genus of eight species in southern Central America and South America.

Grow plants of Cischweinfia in small pots of fine-grade epiphyte mixture. Provide intermediate temperatures, medium light levels, and regular watering throughout the year. Plants of Cischweinfia easily grow into specimen plants. Large clumps should be divided periodically to better display the flowers.
