Overview
Terrestrials. Stems erect, unbranched. Leaves erect, linear, grass-like. Inflorescences terminal pedunculate racemes, the floral bracts awl-like, conspicuous. Flowers showy. Sepals and petals free, the petals arching over the column. Lip three-lobed, short-clawed, with a central longitudinal callus. Column arching, without wings or foot; pollinia 4, in two pairs, sessile on a common transverse viscidium.
Etymology
From the Greek kyane, a nymph, and orchis, meaning orchid, referring to the aquatic habitat of the orchid and the water-nymph Cyané.
Distribution
A genus of two species in Brazil and Paraguay.

Grow plants of Cyanaeorchis in pots of terrestrial mixture. Provide full light, warm temperatures, and regular watering throughout the year. Plants of Cyanaeorchis have been considered difficult in cultivation, although this may be largely from the rarity of stock for experimentation. At least one grower has reported success when the plants are given supplemental bottom heat.
