Overview
Large robust epiphytes rooting towards the base. Leaves alternate, distichous, coriaceous. Inflorescences many-branched pendent panicles. Flowers numerous, very small, the sepals and petals free. Lip saccate, sessile, obscurely lobulate, with a transverse frontwall callus. Column short, stout; pollinia 4, in two unequal pairs.
Etymology
Named for its general similarity to the genera Cleisostoma, Pomatocalpa, and Robiquetia.
Distribution
A monotypic genus endemic to Vietnam. Superficially the plants and flowers of Deceptor resemble a large species of Pomatocalpa but they lack the characteristic backwall callus of the latter.

Similar to other larger members of the Aeridinae such as species of Pomatocalpa and Robiquetia, plants of Deceptor should be grown in baskets or pots using a coarse epiphyte medium which is free-draining or they may be grown on slabs. Native to higher elevationsplants of Deceptor should be grown in a bright cool greenhouse and should not be given intermediate to warm temperatures.
