Overview
Shrub-like terrestrials. Stems erect, branching, leafy. Leaves elliptic, sessile. Inflorescences terminal long-pedunculate panicles, the floral bracts minute. Flowers showy, produced in succession over long periods of time. Sepals and petals subsimilar, subequal, free, spreading. Lip three-lobed, sessile, with a central series of backwards projecting crests. Column slender, arching, with small apical wings, without foot; pollinia granular.
Etymology
From the Greek eri, meaning wooly, and axon, meaning axis, referring to the wooly trichomes on the rachis, ovaries, and buds.
Distribution
A monotypic genus endemic to New Caledonia.
