Overview
Terrestrials arising from tubers. Leaves basal. Inflorescences erect, scapose, secund, spicate racemes. Flowers barely opening, usually self-pollinating. Sepals and petals subsimilar, subequal, the dorsal sepal and petals appressed into a hood. Lip three-lobed, with a very short spur. Column short, the stigmas close to each other at the base and diverging in a v-shaped structure; polinia 2 on separate viscidia.
Distribution
A monotypic genus native to Europe and the Mediterranean.

Grow Neotinea in small pots of sandy loam. Provide bright light, intermediate temperatures, and steady watering throughout the year. The plants should be overwintered in an alpine greenhouse or coldframe.
