Etymology
From the Greek okta, meaning eightfold, and arrhen, meaning male, referring to the eight free pollinia.
Distribution
A genus of 35 species widespread from Sri Lanka to Fiji with a concentration of species in New Guinea.

Mount plants of Octarrhena on small slabs with a large pad of moisture-retaining material at the roots. Provide cool-intermediate to cool temperatures, medium light levels, and regular watering throughout the year. Complete drying out of the roots is to be avoided and may result in the death of the plant.
