Bulbophyllum-sterile-2024-04-09 *SITF confirms that this plant is Bulbophyllum sterile (Apr 2024).
The petals of B. sterile are broadly triangular, as are these and the trilobed lip has the cleft middle lobe and two acute lobes that are visible in this flower. The pseudobulbs on this plant match the description in the "Flowers of India" website as conical-ovoid, faintly four-angled; there is also a photo matching this plant in the "Flowers of India" and matching photos of B. sterile in the "eFlora of India" website. This flower closely matches the photo of B. sterile (as B. neilgherrense) in the IOSPE and Seidenfaden & Smitinand's 1959, "The Orchids of Thailand" stated that B. sterile can be distinguished by its distinctive membraneous bracts, reddish-brown stripes in the sepals, acute triangular lateral sepals, acute and short vertical horns on the column and the lip with basal auricles.

Bulbophyllum-contortisepalum-2023-12-17 *SITF confirms this plant is Bulbophyllum contortisepalum (Dec 2023).
This is a very distinctive species, no other species in the Bulbophyllum Section Hoplandra is similar. Photos of this plant clearly show the fringe on the basal margins of the lip and petal apices. Matches description and photos of B. contortisepalum in the "Orchids of New Guinea.com". Forty-six photos in the orchidroots.com also closely match. Images of the species show the color is quite variable.

Bulbophyllum-kubahense-2023-10-01 *SITF confirms this plant is Bulbophyllum kubahense (Oct 2023).
Bulbophyllum kubahense is closely related to B. refractilingue. B. kubahense appears to have flowers with segments more rounded, obtuse at the apices, where B. refractilingue appears to have flowers more pointed on the apices when compared to the photos. Also, based on flower size, with B. kubahense measuring 2.5 cm vs. less than two for B. refractilingue, this flower matches B. kubahense measuring 2.8/2.6 cm. Dr. J.J. Vermuelen, the "Orchids of Borneo Vol 2" describes B. refractilingue as having well defined teeth along the lower margins of the column; however, there is no evidence of these in this plant which appears to have a smooth margin. Both species have very well defined downswept thick horns like this plant.

Bulbophyllum-zamboangense-2023-06-14 *SITF has confirmed this plant as Bulbophyllum zamboangense (Jun 2023).
This plant matches the photos in the IOSPE and the OW; however, there is very little literature on this species. The description in the OW states: "4-angled, yellow pseudobulbs carrying oblong-elliptic, leathery, very slightly unequally bilobed apically leaves". The pseudobulbs on this plant are 4-angled and the leaves are very slightly unequally bilobed. The pseudobulbs are yellowish-green. Very good match to five images in the orchidroots.com. The inflorescence is much longer in this plant than the description.

Bulbophyllum-tremulum-2023-06-09 *SITF has determined this plant to be Bulbophyllum saltatorium, not Bulbophyllum tremulum (Jul 2023).
Although the photography is insufficient for a good, detailed analysis of ths plant, it lacks the ovate bracts on the inflorescence and glaucous coloring of Bulbophyllum barbigerum. The flower shape and lip hairs are also incorrect for B. tremulum. The major difference between B. saltatorium and B. tremulum is the petal shape. B. tremulum has petals that are elliptic-ovate and ornately ciliate; the petals of B. saltatorium are not. In the lower left photo showing this flower, the petal shape is linear and in the award description, the petals are noted as "horn shaped and curved upward, which would better fit Bulbophyllum saltatorium.

Bulbophyllum-graveolens-2023-05-21 *SITF has confirmed this plant as Bulbophyllum graveolens (May 2023).
An award was given to B. graveolens with a spotted dorsal sepal by the AOC and several photos in orchidroots.com show spotted dorsals with the name B. graveolens var. robustum, which is not recognized by Kew. Kew does recognize Cirrhopetulum robustum as a synonym for B. graveolens. The "Orchids of New Guinea" website also pictures examples of a spotted form where the spotting is carried out onto the lip.

Bulbophyllum-obliquum-2023-02-05 *SITF confirms this plant as Bulbophyllum obliquum (Jun 2023).
Bulbophyllum trifilum flowers are very similar to B. obliquum; however B. trifilum does not match in plant form, on inflorescence length, leaf shape, the number of flowers per inflorescence or in flower size. The leaves of B. obliquum and this plant are flattened, oblanceolate and the rhizomes are long and floral bracts acute. The leaves of B. trifilum are terete. Supporting photos may be seen in the IOSPE.
